Bio of the artist

Sélim BEN CHEIKH (Akouda - Tunisia, 1979).

Lives and works in Tunisia.

Trained at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Tunis, he obtained a Masters degree in Plastic Arts in 2003. He then continued his studies at the University Paris1 Panthéon Sorbonne where he obtained a diploma of advanced studies in Aesthetics and Art Sciences in 2004.

His early research was often linked to the need to visually translate the forces of gravity, tension and pressure, which led him to exhibit several times between 2005 and 2007. His three solo exhibitions in Paris include : Humain tout simplement (March 2005) at the Cité Universitaire Internationale ; Ballet Mécanique (April 2006), at the Cité Universitaire Internationale de Paris; and Dialogue (June 2007) at the Fondation le Corbusier. He has been exhibiting regularly in Tunis since May 2012. He has three solo exhibitions, Obliques in March 2014 at the Gorgi Gallery, Ijtihad in March 2017 at the Ghaya Gallery, and Incertitudes in September 2017 at La Boite. His recent research focuses on the evolution and changes observed in his country in recent years.
