It involves departures and new beginnings, arrivals that can be painful, and creative forms of adaptation. It spans centuries and borders, shapes cultures, and challenges notions of belonging. The Tunisian-Cuban Friendship Association (CUBATÚN), in partnership with the B7L9 Art Centre, invites you to a conversation exploring these dynamics through two unique yet complementary migration stories.Nabila Hamza will speak about Arab emigration to Latin America and the successful integration processes of these diasporas, which have managed to preserve their heritage while actively contributing to the life of their host societies.Alfonso Campisi, in turn, offers a mirrored perspective by tracing the history of Sicilian immigration to Tunisia in the 19th and 20th centuries, followed by the contemporary story of Tunisian emigration to Italy. By intersecting these movements, he highlights the reversibility of host-migrant roles and the persistent tensions surrounding integration. In a context where migration is increasingly manipulated for political gain and used to fuel identity-based fears, this event aims to carve out space for thoughtful reflection on a topic often distorted by emotion. It stands in contrast to the current ideological noise, where populist rhetoric exploits exile and feeds the rise of extremism across the globe.
