Bio of the artist

Kader ATTIA (Paris - France, 1970).

Lives and works between Alger and Berlin.

Before studying at the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and at Escola Massana, Centre d’Art i Disseny in Barcelona, he spent several years in Congo and South America. The artist’s work encompasses a wide variety of media through an interdisciplinary approach, and reflects an interest in intercultural histories and exchange, colonialism, architectural history, violence, collective memory, and notions of “repair.” Attia’s work has been extensively exhibited internationally, and has recently participated in the 57th Venice Biennial (curated by Christine Macel), and presented solo exhibitions at institutions such as SMAK (Ghent, Belgium), Whitechapel Gallery (London, UK), Beirut Art Centre (Beirut, Lebanon), and taken part in group exhibitions at MoMA (New York City, New York), Tate Modern (London, UK), Centre Pompidou (Paris, France), and others.
