Bio of the artist

Mohamed GUESMIA (Alger - Algeria).

After graduating at the National School of Fine Arts in Algiers (1978-1982), he worked at the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions of Algiers as a teacher in drawing and painting for children (1987-1988), then as a decorator. From 1990 to 1991, he supervised a ceramics workshop in Algiers (1990-1991) and ahieved several murals. He has notably worked as an illustrator for Algerian and foreign magazines, before creating an artistic creation workshop in Algiers. Between 2000 and 2002, he was promoter and coordinator of the Artists’ House project in Tamanrasset. Mohamed Guesmia has to his credit several collective exhibitions including: "Intimate Exhibit" (1982) and "Drawing" in (1987). He has also participated in several artistic projects including: the performance "Drifting" with Omar Meziani, graphic expression workshops for children of victims of terrorism and an installation in Cannes, France, (1998) entitled "Algeria is not a cinema", which brought together several Algerian visual artists at the initiative of the Asselah Foundation. He also participated in the project "The world is a balloon" achieved with Algerian, Brazilian and French children.
