Join us at B7L9 Art Centre on Saturday, April 25 at 8:00 PM for Visitations — Listening Act 1, coproduced with Archipel Geneva —International festival of musical creation Geneva.
Artist-researchers Lamin Fofana and Mohamed Ali Ltaief continue their conversation in sonic and conceptual form. They evoke the 'archaeology of the voice', an approach combining text, visual culture and audio to create a conversational narrative akin to a two-part sonic-book intended for collective listening.
Departing from recordings from/& held at the Berliner Phonogramm-Archiv, the Lautarchiv and the Ethnologisches Museum in Berlin, as well as on listening sessions and research conducted around independent music labels — such as Baidaphon, a Lebanese label founded in 1912 on Mittelstraße in Berlin — this happening — listening act intertwines with scattered counter-archives that can be read in sound catalogues such as the independent music labels: "Oum-El-Hassen" Tunis 30s, "Rssaissi" Tunis 30s, "Fiesta" Paris 40s, "Maksoud" New York 1910s—1930s, and "Alamphon" USA 50s.
