Presentation of the project :
Before the advent of radio and television, The stories were a great company for the Tunisian families and a key component of their popular and cultural memories. It appears that the wise men are artists in their performance, in their elaboration of details, and in the ways of narration. Perhaps we did not know of them except Abdulaziz Al-Arwi, who was presenting his tales on the radio, and a large part of it was documented in three volumes. But the stories differ from one side to another and from time to time. Perhaps the Tunisian cultural blog lost many stories, tales, and proverbs that were not documented, and it ceased to exist with the death it preserved and its bearers.
During the quarantine period, and with the obligation to stay indoors and all activities disrupted, I found myslef near my mother listening to her stories with interest and amazement, waking up childhood memories. At the same time, she noticed her brilliance in the manner of performance, narration and description, and her ability to create suspense and intense listening, especially with her unique kirkana dialect and calm coastal rhythm. So the idea of registering it came. It was not easy to convince my mother Sabra to record her voice and post the content on social media. However, as soon as we started recording, I was passionate about the project and accomplished it with all comfort and spontaneity.
The main objective of this project is to preserve a portion of the Intangible Oral Heritage, especially since all the selected stories are different from the tales of Abdulaziz Al-Arwi known. Also, reviving the art of story and storytelling may be the start of projects concerned with public speaking, language and creativity in local colloquial dialects.
"حكايات صبرة" is the starting point for a complete research project that may reach various parts of the Republic to work on preparing "storytellers" who are able to formulate new stories and present them orally.
