السيرة الذاتية للفنان

Mounir FATMI (Tanger - Morocco, 1970).

Lives and works in Paris.

His multimedia practice encompasses video, installation, drawing, painting and sculpture. Fatmi constructs visual spaces and linguistic games. His work deals with the desecration of religious objects, deconstruction and the end of dogmas and ideologies. He is particularly interested in the idea of death of the subject of consumption. This can be applied to antenna cables, copy machines, VHS tapes, a dead language or a political movement. His videos, installations, drawings, paintings and sculptures bring to light our doubts, fears and desires. They directly address the current events of our world, and speak to those whose lives are affected by specific events to reveal their structure. Mounir Fatmi's work offers a look at the world from a different perspective, refusing to be blinded by conventions.

His work has been shown in numerous solo exhibitions, including the Migros Museum für Gegenwarskunst, Zürich; the Picasso National Museum, War and peace, Vallauris Golfe-Juan; the Fonds Regional d'Art Contemporain (Frac) Alsace; the Contemporary Art Centre, Le Parvis; the Fondazione Collegio San Caro, Modena; the AK Bank Foundation, Istanbul; the Museum Kunst Palast, Dusseldorf; the Centre of Contemporary Creation, Tours; and AND Galeria, Barcelona.

Fatmi also participated in several collective exhibitions at the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; The Brooklyn Museum, New York; N.B.K. Berlin; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; Museum on the Seam, Jerusalem; Moscow Museum of Modern Art; Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha; the Hayward Gallery, London; the Art Gallery of Western Australia; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; and Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Castilla y Leon (MUSAC), Spain.
