Bio of the artist

Youssef NABIL (Cairo - Egypt, 1972).

Lives and works in New York.

He began his career as a photographer in 1992 and subsequently worked as an assistant in photography studios in Paris and New York. It was there that he developed his distinctive technique of hand-colouring silver gelatin photographs, emulating images from the golden age of Egyptian cinema. Youssef has had a number of solo shows at Dubai's The Third Line Gallery, Nathalie Obadia Gallery in Paris, and Townhouse Gallery in Cairo. He has also participated in group shows at Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Mathaf Arab Museum, Doha and in the recent exhibition Safar/Voyage held at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, Canada.
